Help make child care an issue!

Half in Ten has launched a Social Media Campaign to encourage presidential debate moderators to ask the candidates about poverty and related issues, including access to child care. The debate moderators have already begun soliciting question ideas from the public via social media. This is a great opportunity to encourage the candidates to start talking about child care.

To tweet to the moderators use their twitter handles listed here:

Debate moderators:
Oct 3: @NewsHour (domestic policy)
Oct 11: @MarthaRaddatz (VP debate—another hashtag to use for this debate in addition to #talkpoverty is #VPDebate)
Oct 16: @crowleyCNN (town hall style, both foreign and domestic policy)
Oct 22: @BobSchieffer (foreign policy)

Include the moderators handle, your question and the hashtag #TalkPoverty. Here are some sample tweets:

Only 1 in 6 poor children receives #childcare help. @NewsHour Ask how the candidates will improve access to quality care. #TalkPoverty

Quality #childcare + #earlyed improve long term outcomes. @crowleyCNN Ask how candidates will improve access for poor children. #TalkPoverty

#Childcare waiting lists are growing.@MarthaRaddatz Ask the candidates about their plan to help poor families. #TalkPoverty

@BobSchieffer Ask cnds about #Childcare. It costs nearly 1/3 of poor families’ incomes. Quality care prevents achievement gaps. #TalkPoverty

Fewer families are getting #childcare help. @NewsHour Ask the candidates how they will make quality care affordable. #TalkPoverty #Q4K

Use the tweets above or create one of your own. Join the effort!
