We had a wonderful
Annual Meeting & Luncheon yesterday!
Read on for highlights of this great event!
We distributed our 2011 Annual Report. We are very proud the work we accomplished for children and families. Please take a look here.
Our theme was "moving forward". A paper airplane was incorporated in the design of our Annual Report (thanks Ruth Sadinsky!) and we ran with it! Even our center pieces were topped with a paper airplane.
The
event, held at the Albany Country Club, was attended by over 150 guests from
around the state! In addition to those in the CCR&R, early education
and child care fields, we were happy to have folks from the business community
with us. Early care and education is everyone's business!
We
could not host events like this without the support of generous sponsors. This
years's major sponsors included:
We also were honored to have special
guest Meredith Wiley signing her book
Thanks Meredith!
Our
keynote speaker was Stephanie Fanjul. Stephanie is the President of Smart Start
and the North Carolina Partnership for Children. Her message was loud and
clear; QUALITY MATTERS! Stephanie talked about Smart Start, North Carolina’s
initiative that inspires and connects people to make lasting change in the
health and well-being of North Carolina’s young children.
Smart
Start highlights:
- 67% of all children in early care and education attend
4- and 5-star programs as compared to 33% in 2001.
- 78% of children whose families
received subsidy attend 4- and 5-star centers (compared to 30% in 2001). A 2011
Duke University study found children had higher third grade reading and math
scores and fewer special education placements in counties that received more
funding for Smart Start when those children were younger.
The first 2000 days of child’s life
are critical! That’s why Smart Start works and QUALITYstarsNY will work too! We
need to invest in the first 2000 days and invest in QUALITYstarsNY.
We were so pleased to be able to recognize
three Excellence
in Leadership Award Honorees.
The Early
Care & Learning Council’s annual presentation of the “Excellence in
Leadership” Award is a tradition that began in 1999. The Award recognizes individuals or
organizations that have made a significant contribution to New York State’s
children and families and have shown exemplary leadership in advancing high quality
early care and education in New York State.
This year’s winners were

Congratulations
winners and thank you for your continued support of young children and their
families!
We
were thrilled to recognize two CCR&Rs who achieved Child Care Aware of America National Quality Assurance in the past year. National Quality Assurance enables
CCR&Rs and State Networks to improve quality and strive for excellence just
as accreditation and quality rating systems do for providers. It is a process
of continuous quality improvement and being Quality Assured means that an
agency has net the highest standards of service. Congratulations:
Together
these two agencies make Long Island a Quality Assured region!
Congratulations
PITC graduates!
The Council also recognized
Program for Infant and Toddler Care (PITC) graduates, who in 2010 and
2011 completed two weeks of intensive training and went on to complete the
process to become certified in this nationally recognized approach to
professional development for infant and toddler caregivers. We are so proud of
the hard work you did!
